Explore Lovelock, Nevada
Lovelock is a city that lies along the Humboldt River in Pershing County of western Nevada. It is said to have the only round courthouse in use in the country and offers such recreational diversions as gaming casinos, stock car races and rodeos. Hunting and fishing are profitable in the surrounding area. Small Tufa Park, 5 miles west of town, features geological deposits created by ancient Lake Lahontan, which covered the area thousands of years ago.
About 22 miles northeast of Lovelock is the Rye Patch State Recreation Area, with fishing, swimming, and boating.
At Lovers Lock Plaza behind the courthouse, visiting friends, families and couples can practice an ancient Chinese tradition by symbolically "locking their lover." The custom is to affix a lock to a chain and throw away the key. Heart-shaped locks may be purchased from participating businesses within the city.
